When most people think of racing sponsors, the picture comes to mind of NASCAR, with its automotive company stickers plastered all over the vehicle; or high-dollar corporate logos like Home Depot, NAPA, even M&Ms or Tide.

But there's a whole different side to the amateur racer who doesn't have the opportunity to perform for thousands of fans or in front of TV cameras. Count Big Pine Key racer Jerry Dykhuisen on that side.

He pays all his own bills and does the vast majority of all his own mechanical work. That doesn't stop him, however, from getting his message out.

As a huge animal lover, he uses his hobby to promote some of the causes in which he believes.

Displayed on the wing and the bodywork of his Cheetah D Sports Racer is information relating to Forgotten Felines of the Florida Keys and the Key Deer Protection Alliance.

"Our car is pretty exotic looking and attracts lots of attention at the track, and even on the highway when we're towing to events," he says.

Getting the word out about these two organizations, in both of which he serves as an officer, raises their profile and increases awareness of their existence and missions, he says.

The car, powered by a Kawasaki 1000 cc motorcycle engine, is capable of reaching speeds of 150 mph and runs in national and regional road racing events sponsored by the Sports Car Club of America throughout the Southeast at such tracks as Daytona and Sebring international raceways.

Sports Racer Network > Updated ad December 2005 (car sold to Bill Maisey)

2003 Cheetah D sport race car (turn key) with two gsxr 1000 engines (dry sumped for reliability).

Excellent condition.
Complete with spares. Nationally competitive.
2004 Northern Pacific division champion.
Qualified 4th at Mid Ohio runoffs (2004).

Both motors have very low hrs and the chassis is excellent (very precise). The reason for the reduced price is I was planning to freshen up the body work and repaint. Cosmetically the fiberglass could use some love but I don't know if I'll be able to get around to it. I've only taken the car out 4 times in 2005 (and it won a national and double regional).

Includes:
2 sets of bodywork.
2 sets of Jongbloed wheels with mounted Hoosiers.
1 set Kaiser wheels with Hoosier rains (run once).
Cheetah's utilize a strong, lightweight aluminum monocoque. This car with me (155lbs) comes in close to min weight at 945lbs. It's completely sorted with upgraded Wilwood brakes, Penski shocks (two sets of springs), gsxr dash, Momo steering wheel, etc.
Over $2000 in additional spares (most new) including radiator, suspension arms, uprights, chain, sprockets, etc..

Two engines (one fully built and one stock). Both with very low time and tested in car.

Fully built gsxr runoffs motor with Carillo rods, forged pistons, cams, balanced crank, heavy duty clutch + basket, best of everything (great engine by George Dean 180hp at the rear wheels. 2.5 hours since fresh). This engine alone cost $8k.

Also included, spare 2004 very low mi stock gsxr engine.
Was $40k with one engine. Price reduced to $35,000 for everything, both engines, all spares, 3 sets of wheels, mounted rain tires, etc.
